This ‘Basundhara Club’ is rechristened as the ‘Basundhara Cell’ in April 2022 and emerged as a potential platform of nature awareness with more vigor, favor and enthusiasm during the covid period. This ‘Basundhara Cell’ has reemerged as the Green Committee Under the canopy of which The College Environment Committee is formed in July 2022. The ‘Basundhara Cell’ (Green Committee) has 15 members including thirteen teacher members and two student members. On the other hand, the Green committee comprises 16 members. This College Environment Committee is entrusted as a potential platform for Green audit with a study covered in the areas of Water Management, Energy Consumption, Waste and E-waste Management and Green Area Management with emphasis on both the diversity of flora and fauna. Mission and Vision

The Birdwatchers’ Cell of Trivenidevi Bhalotia College, Raniganj was established with the mission and vision of bringing its stakeholders closer to nature in an age of hyper-technology and hypergadget use. While the world is too engrossed staring at its screen of gadgets, the Birdwatchers’ Cell endeavours to draw people’s attention to a mesmerizing aspect of nature, that is, birds. The Cell is on a noble mission to familiarize the stakeholders with the awe-strikingly wide variety of birds and the important role they play in our ecosystem. It envisions to enkindle the interest of students and staff members equally in ornithology, so that they develop a keen interest on birds and are instigated to pursue future research works and enlighten the world with the new and still unknown scientific knowledge related to birds.

Date of Initiation of the Cell: The cell was first established in the year 2016.

Activities of the Cell during the Last Five Sessions

The Birdwatchers’ Cell organizes different programmes regarding awareness and bird-watching which aid in the study of birds and their behaviour. Till now, it has organized awareness programmes on different aspects that affect our feathered friends, on World Migratory Bird Day as well as seminars on Local Urban Birds. Additionally, programmes on bird watching for beginners to develop the necessary basic ideas have also been conducted. Along with this, every year, the cell organizes programmes for the newly admitted students (1 st semester) to inculcate their interest about birds. Through these programmes the students develop a complete idea about the ecosystem and its components and are exposed to a gateway of ornithology.

Implication of the Cell in the Benefit of the Society and Stakeholders

The Birdwatchers’ Cell of Trivenidevi Bhalotia College plays a significant role in benefitting the society and its stakeholders. Through its various programmes, namely, seminars, awareness programmes and even, the very practical activity of organizing birdwatching programmes, the cell strives to fill a big gap in today’s digitalized life. People are detached from nature and are devoid of the necessary information of natural objects. The cell teaches us the importance of knowing the birds and how they balance our environment. It creates people’s connection with nature. The Birdwatchers’ Cell provides a platform for budding environmentalists and researchers to come together, participate in various activities and share their knowledge with each other. It benefits the society by making people aware about the need of saving birds for the sake of our survival since they are one of the most vital pillars of our ecosystem. The cell has also documented the wide array of birds found in Raniganj and the surrounding industrial belt, which serves as a milestone in shedding light in this domain of knowledge.
